Speech
Baker: Thank you. We'd like to thank the Academy, Universal, Imagine,
Brian Grazer and Ron Howard for making such a creative film. The
entire cast for their patience and cooperation. Jim Carrey for his
brilliant performance. My crew. Over 150 talented people contributed
greatly to the work that we accept this award for. I'm sorry I can't
thank them all individually. But one I have to thank tonight is
Kazuhiro Tsuji. Kazu not only applied Jim Carrey's Grinch makeup
but designed many of the makeups and deserves to be here with us.
Lastly, I like to thank the loves of my life, my beautiful wife
Sylvia, my fantastic daughters Veronica and Rebecca, my late mother
Doris, and my father Ralph.
Ryan: I would also like to thank my fabulous crew. A special thanks
to Terry Baliel for his wonderful work. Tell my husband, I love
him, and Laurel, I wish you were here. Thank you.
Special Thanks
Rick Baker thanks:
I would, first of all, like to thank the Academy for allowing me
this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the creation of the
makeup work for THE GRINCH. This film was definitely a case of only
being as good as your crew. I had an amazingly talented and nice
crew in both the pre-production and production sides. Working with
them made this a magical experience that I will never forget. I
want to thank the following people for their outstanding contributions
to the work that I am so honored to accept this award for:
My pre-production team had to work both day and night to keep up
with the demands of our workload and ridiculous short schedule.
They managed to manufacture all that was needed on schedule and
with a smile. My sculpture and design team for the hundreds of sculptures
and extremely creative designs: Kazuhiro Tsuji, Matt Rose, Mitch
Devane, Eddie Yang, Aaron Sims, Jim McPherson, Ryan Peterson. My
wig and hair department for the hundreds of lace wigs, hairpieces,
and the many GRINCH hair suits all done a hair at a time: Sylvia
Nava, Audrey Harelik, Connie Grayson, Kathy Kane-MacGowan, Karen
Keener, Ursula Ward, Lynne Watson, Diana Yoo, Connie Cadwell, Josephine
Turner, Rosabla Rojas, Margarita Pina, Yolanda Parga, Gracia Gallegos,
Luz Esther Galindo. My foam department for casting over eight thousand
foam appliances: Roland Blancaflor, Richard Davison, Jason Barnett,
Bill Fesh, Steve Katz, Jesse Lincoln, Cass McClure, Michael O'Brien,
Darren Perks, John Shea, A.J. Venuto, Chris Walker, Kevin Wasner,
Rich Alonzo. My mold department for all of their thousands of molds:

Freitas, Rob Lan, Gil Liberto, Clay Martinez, Dave Matherly, Eve
Neimand, Joe Podnar, Steve Prouty, Frank Rydberg, James Spinner,
Brian Stiver, Brian Van Dorn, Hiroshi Yada. My Dental Technicians
for the hundreds of dentures: Art Sakamoto, Glen Griffin, and Chad
Waters. My Specialty Costumers for all of their lycra spandex: Claire
Flewin, Maria Sundeen, and Beate Eisele. My Seamers and Patchers
for all of their tedious time in the dark: Lisa Welton, Mike Regan,
Gabriel Decunto, Mimi Palazon, and Kirsten Simitzi. My Painters
for cutting down the application time: Tom Gilliland and Chet Zar.
My Animatronics Department for the Baby Grinch's movement: Mark
Setrakian, Jurgen Heimann, Nicholas Esposto My Production and Facilities
department for keeping us up and running: Jeff Steele, Jose Sandoval,
Brian Morishita, Jesus Chavez, Scott Brines, Tiffany Smith, Mark
Lan Special thanks to my Production Supervisor, Bill Sturgeon for
organizing and running the shop full of artists in a way that allowed
us to produce a record amount of work in record time and for doing
it in his usual calm manner. My Assistant, Heidi Holicker, for screening
my calls, getting my lunch, and all of the other stuff that she
does for me.
Now you see why they limit us to 45 seconds. I haven't even thanked
my production team yet. My team of makeup artists and hair stylists
were up and happily at work at 2:00 a.m. every morning for five
months. They all did an amazing job, and were so nice to work with.
I will NEVER forget Halloween in Whoville!

Again, I'm almost done.
-I would like to thank Universal and Imagine Entertainment for making
the film. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer for giving me the opportunity
to do this film.
-Don Peterman for his beautiful photography.
-The ENTIRE CAST! Each one of them had to wear elaborate makeups
and be up at the crack of dawn for five months. They were great
to work with. They all were incredibly patient and cooperative with
the makeup process. I want to thank them and apologize for all of
the hours they spent in the chair.
-I want to thank Jim Carrey for being a rubber-moving machine. No
one can make faces like he does. When the camera rolls, he gives
200%.
-Lastly, I would like to thank my wonderful family. My beautiful
and smart wife Silvia for all her wisdom, love, and support.
-Thank you to my beatiful daughters, Veronica and Rebecca, for teaching
me the meaning of joy.
-Thank you to my incredible parents. My late mother, Doris, worked
hard so my father and I could pursue creative careers. I lost her
during the making of THE GRINCH. I wish you were still here, Mom.
-Thank you to my father, Ralph. He was my first inspiration, my
first teacher, my best buddy. I was blessed with the most supportive
and loving parents, for that I will ever be grateful.
-THANK YOU ALL!
